EXPERIENCE

All these things I've done

Employment

  • August 2015 – present

    Half Mystic @ Interview Correspondent

I serve as the interview correspondent for the independent music journal Half Mystic, which was founded in July 2015 by writer and musician Topaz Winters. I'm responsible for growing the journal's community by interviewing musicians and/or music lovers once a month for the Half Mystic blog.

  • June 2015 – August 2015

Glass Kite Anthology Summer Writing Studio @ Poetry Mentor

In the summer of 2015, I was a poetry mentor in Glass Kite Anthology's inaugural Summer Writing Studio, a four-week mentorship for middle school and high school writers. I worked with two mentees of my choosing, helping them grow as poets and hopefully opening up new opportunities for them.

  • June 2015 – April 2016

Persephone's Daughters @ Lead Tech Assistant

I acted as the lead tech assistant for literary magazine Persephone's Daughters, a publication founded by poet Meggie Royer and dedicated to empowering female-identifying survivors of sexual violence. The position consisted of "fixing glitches on [the magazine's] various social media websites should they arise, assisting with graphic design updates to these various websites, readying submissions for posting, and providing on-demand tech support as needed."

  • October 2014 – June 2015

Luna Station Quarterly @ Special Projects Assistant

As part of the special projects team for speculative literary magazine Luna Station Quarterly, I proofread back issues for print edition conversion and checked finished issue files for formatting errors.

  • October 2013 – present

    The Teacup Trail @ Editor-in-Chief

In October 2013, I founded a Tumblr-based speculative lit + art magazine called The Teacup Trail. As its Editor-in-Chief, I work with my editorial staff to evaluate and make accept/reject decisions on submissions of writing and art, manage submissions using Tumblr's submission system, communicate with staff members to keep the magazine running, work on designing and maintaining a Tumblr website, and write occasional content for our staff blog.

Education

  • June 2015 – August 2015

Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship @ online

In the summer of 2015, I was a part of The Adroit Journal's Summer Mentorship Program as a poetry mentee to 2013 National Student Poet Aline Dolinh. Previous Adroit summer mentees have gone on to be recognized by numerous writing outlets, including the National YoungArts Foundation, the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Awards.

  • 2013-2014

    Freshman Fifteens Mentorship @ wattpad

As a result of being one of fifteen winners of the Freshman Fifteens COMMON ROOM Teen Mentoring Contest on Wattpad, hosted by a group of 2015 debut young adult authors, I received the opportunity to be mentored by author Kim Liggett (Blood and Salt). The product of that mentorship, a short story titled "Destinata", is available now on Wattpad.

Anthologies (as Contributor)

The Quieting is a limited edition, hand-bound, letter-pressed anthology. Ten contributors each provided a small piece of work that encapsulates what softness and light means to them.

From hunted deer to boneless whales, from the scents of home to the expanding universe, The Quieting is a delicate journey in an otherwise wild world.

Figment

"I’m definitely influenced by things I find aesthetically pleasing – things like fairy tales, clockwork cities, sea winds, and swords. [...] I love turning fairy tales and myths inside out, and everything I write is a little tinged with magic."

Freshman Fifteens

"Magic that evokes strong feelings and makes passions flare up—curses and contracts and the like—is my favorite kind, and what I love most about it is that complicated play between it and the people it affects."
